Chiesa Santa Maria della Salute (Basilica of Saint Mary of Health), Venice, Italy.
In 1630, while the people of Venice fell upon the plague, the patriarch of the city promised to build a church to virgin Mary as long as the people regain their health. Furthermore, he promised to visit the church once a year with the city leaders. By the end of the plague, almost 100 thousand venetians had already died.
In 1631 started the construction of the church under the order of Baldassare Longhena. Its construction was finally ended in 1687
Since then, every November 21st is celebrated in Venice the Festa della Madonna della Salute (Party of the Mrs. of Health)
